What to wear

All enrolled dancers are required to wear appropriate attire to class and hair neatly tied off their face. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothes you can stretch in. For example; dance pants, leggings, shorts, tracksuit pants, singlet tops, leotards, tights, Etc. Please ensure your child wears appropriate clothes and shoes to and from class as well, especially during the colder months of the year. You would be surprised how many students leave bare feet or in the middle of winter with no jumper because they are “hot”. But this can be very bad for muscles and can cause injuries.

No denim!  No jewellery! No street shoes that will mark the floor!

No chewing gum or food is to be eaten during class! Please bring a bottle of water to class for hydration!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer a FREE TRIAL CLASS?

😃 Yes you may trial a class before committing to the term.

Do the students need to have previous dance experience?

🤸🏻‍♀️No, you do not have to have experience. We accept all ages and levels.

Are there exams or competitions?

🤷‍♀️ No, we pride ourselves on a fun approach to dance without the pressure of exams and competitions.

Are there performances throughout the year?

Yes, we do a Mid Year Show in uniform and an End Of Year Performance in costumes. The children will perform dance routines they have been learning throughout the the year. It is an opportunity for the children to perform to an audience, showcase what they have learnt in a very comfortable and nurturing environment. Performing is a huge part of dance and very rewarding for them in many ways. However, the performances are not compulsory but recommended for the experience.

Do the parents have to make/sew costumes?

🤔  No all our costumes are already made for you.

What do the children wear to class? Is there a Uniform?
👯‍♀️
CREATIVE DANCE – No uniform, own fairy dress/skirt or comfortable clothing and bare feet recommended.
PRIMARY/SUB JUNIOR BALLET– Pink ballet leotard, pink skirt, pink ballet tights and pink ballet shoes.
JUNIOR/INTERMEDIATE/SENIOR BALLET – Black leotard, skirt, ballet tights and pink ballet shoes.
TAP/JAZZ/MUSICAL THEATRE/CONTEMPORARY – We have a range of Shee’k Uniform available from Crop Tops, Singlets, T-shirts and Shorts. Black leggings, shorts and leotards are all acceptable to wear to class.
BREAKDANCE/HIP HOP – Comfortable clothing (long pants for breakdance), no denim, Breakdance T-shirts are available for purchase, black runners.
*The most important thing with clothing, is the children are comfortable and not restricted with movement or when stretching.
What shoes do we need to purchase?
JAZZ /MUSICAL THEATRE- Black Jazz Shoes (Split Sole)
TAP – Tan Tap Shoes (Low Heel)
HIP HOP/BREAKDANCE – Black Runners (Volley Type are suggested)
BALLET – Leather or Canvas Ballet Shoes (full sole)
CONTEMPORARY – Bare feet are fine or Contemporary foot thongs/undies or Turning Shoes
Do parents stay and watch?
Some parents like to stay and watch and others prefer a surprise at the end of class or at the concert. We do not have a huge waiting room but we do welcome parents to stay if they want. It is preferred, the parents are not in the studio as the children do get distracted and often behave differently when family are watching. We also ask to keep noise level to a minimum, especially siblings who do sometimes get excited and are a little distracting for the children.
How long is the term?

Each term ranges from 9, 10 & 11 weeks averaging to 40 weeks in the year. The fees will be the same each term. We stick to the Victorian School Dates and do not run classes on Public Holidays.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes we have a Family Discount, multiple class discounts and an Early Bird Discount if paid by the due date.

What should I do if we miss one week?

Make up classes are available if you miss a class. If there is not an equivalent class, you can try another style but must be within the age group of your child.

Where are the classes?

We run our classes from the Port Phillip Specialist School. Our entrance is Princes street (corner of Pool street). See the map location.

What do we bring to class?

Dance wear, dance shoes if they have them and a bottle of water clearly labelled with your Childs name.

Can boys do all classes?

Absolutely. All our classes are available to boys and girls.
